Prior to the TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on Africa's Development) meeting, a symposium on the theme “Eliminating Poverty in Africa: What Can Japan Do?” will feature discussions on the potential for future African development among experts with a deep involvement in Africa. It will be led by Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, who, in his capacity as Special Advisor to the Secretary-General on the Millennium Development Goals at the United Nations, is engaged in finding theoretical and practical ways to eliminate poverty in Africa.
